DJTHED here... At least it would be if a random person from Germany didn't create a DeviantArt account here with that exact same name 8 years ago and never used it... So I guess I'm now known as "TheRealDJTHED" around these parts now...

Anyway, I exclusively work in 3D. I'm an amateur 3D Animator that also is working on becoming better at 3D modeling and rigging. I have no professional experience with 3D Animation, and I have not received any schooling at all for it either. I know what I know because I constantly observe how things move in real life, and why things move the way they move. I do the same for any theatrical release of a 3D Animated film when I watch it. And I experiment with what I've observed from all that all the time in Blender. I've picked up a lot of things over the last couple years on what makes animation look good, and I can usually identify what looks bad in an animation and come up with a possible solution. With that said, due to my lack of professional experience and lack of schooling, I'm sure my animation workflow is lacking in solid fundamentals. I still struggle to approach certain types of movements in animation, even what would seem like pretty basic things.

My primary 3D software of choice is Blender. Blender is capable of so much, it's nearly at the same level of capability as its paid counterparts. I may end up using other pieces of software at some point if I ever get into this professionally, because for as far as I know, Blender isn't used often in the professional world, but Maya is. But even if that does happen, I doubt I would ever not use Blender as my "At Home" primary 3D application.

No I will not use SFM.

It's using a video game engine from 2003... And really it's even much older than that since Source was built from the Quake engine if I recall correctly. That shit is ancient. But really, the main reason I don't use SFM is that I feel that it's very clunky, lacking in features, and doesn't fit well to the fluidity of my workflow. And I suppose as I am someone that has been using Blender for 7 years, I find Blender infinitely more intuitive.

Support me on Patreon! Any little bit helps. The less I have to worry about money the more time I can work on providing content for you guys instead of looking for a real job like stacking shelves or something. I'd much rather do the former.

Paypal Non-Subscription Alternative:

I livestream on sometimes. What I stream should always be Safe for Work (Not into a lot of suggestive or extremely vulgar things when it comes to my work, especially when Ponies are involved). Mic is almost always on, and expect lots of MLP music and other obscure video game OSTs playing in the background as I work in Blender.

(4K) The Mane Attraction WIP 8 Set
Clouds, Cloth Decor, Denoise Testing

This render was previewed 3 days early for my patrons on Patreon! You don't have to feel obliged to join my Patreon, as I plan to make everything I do public at some point, but any bit of help I receive will be put towards upgrading my hardware that I use to create these renders:

Paypal Non-Subscription Alternative:…

Some clouds have been added into the background. They are part of the sky texture, not part of the 3D environment. Hopefully they look okay to you all. Along with the clouds I've also been messing around with the cloth simulator in Blender and was able to create some of the cloth decor that are hung around the sides of the stage platform. I'll be working on the stage curtain soon.

This image was also rendered in a beta version of Blender that has an upcoming feature called "denoise". It's not a perfect tool, but it helps significantly reduce noise without having to increase the samples to an absurd amount (which in turn causes render-times to grow exponentially) or do any sort of clamping or whatever. With the denoiser, I can render at a more reasonable sample count now, and knowing that I don't really have to spend all that extra time rendering more samples than I would like, I bumped up the resolution of these test renders quite a bit. I probably wouldn't dare render a full animation at this resolution because this still took a long time to render thanks to the volumetric spotlight.

Also, this was the last render I have created while only having one GPU. Thank you to all of my donators for helping me get a second GPU for rendering!

I recently started to accept donations via Paypal or through my Patreon, and already I've gotten enough money to invest in a worth-while upgrade for my system to drastically speed up render times for Blender. You guys know who you are, and I can't thank you guys enough. I know you guys enjoy my stuff, but I never expected to receive so much help.

This image, as well as many (though not all) future test renders and animation will be shown off early on my Patreon page! Though this particular image aired just under a week early, but future images and animation I share early on my Patreon will be 3 days early instead of a full week. You don't have to feel obliged to join my Patreon, as I plan to make everything I do public at some point:

I'm almost done polishing up the rigging to a point I can feel confident that it'll do its job at doing what I need it to do in my upcoming project. There are still things this model doesn't do very well, but the fixes I would need to apply are beyond what I am capable of doing at this time. I'm an animator at heart, I do not consider myself a great 3D modeler or rigger.

Say What?
Just a little over 4 hours of animation work done for this one.

Here's the full recorded livestream of my animation session for those who are curious. It should be done processing within the hour of publishing this.…

The lips were synced to when Applejack actually said "Say what?" in S5E1 The Cutie Map Part 1 at 24 fps.

Yup! It's a thing now. Go ahead and take a look at my Patreon page for details, but I'll just summarize why I'm doing this real quick:

While I honestly don't necessarily need Patreon support, it would be more ideal. In a nutshell, the more money I get through Patreon, the more time I'll be able to spend producing content for you guys, and the less time I'll be spending doing a day job!

And if I somehow get a ton more support than I would have ever asked for, I'll be able to spend the extra money I get on upgrading my PC or building more PCs to create my own personal render farm. Blender is a great piece of software, but the time it takes to render a single image can get out of control real quick. It will take a beast of a machine to render complex scenes in a reasonable amount of time for just a single image. But since I naturally publish work in animation, a single image won't suffice. So yeah, the more power behind the PC(s) I have, the quicker I can get content out there, especially content with a lot more complexity to it in the scenery (i.e. my Apply Stage set).

Whether or not you choose to support me on Patreon, I'll always still be grateful that you guys even look at my stuff in the first place. That alone has done wonders in terms of my motivation and confidence. Thank you, everyone!

These are rather great models! In particular I like your solution to the eyebrows. Overall these might be the best looking in 3D. Mine have an accurate silhouette, but these honestly look better I think in a number of ways. As well, your animation skills seem to be a cut above most of everyone else I've seen producing content recently, with nice timing, expression, and detail. Great work! Makes me want to mess around with my rigs, though I haven't in quite some time.

You're alive :O

Thank you! I still think my model has a quite a few more technical flaws than other pony models that have been released, including yours. The body on mine still can have some strange deformations when posing any of the legs in extreme angles that I have a hard time fixing. But thanks for the feedback! I'm definitely an animator at heart, I don't specialize in modeling or rigging or anything, but I'm pretty happy with what I've been able to create up to this point.

Wonderful quality animations and models!
if cuteness was diabetes this would be the last straw for me to get it x3

Keep it up!!

Well now, this is some god-tier animation (and modelling). I'm very jealous. I look forward to seeing what else you make!

Wow! I found your DA through the site and decide to give you a watch! I would like to see your work as they seem to be way better than SFM ponies.

I am having a REALLY hard time trying to figure out the Blender functions and tool as I am going to make a pony model there soon but I'm focused on making Digital art and maybe an animation when my lazy mind is not in the way sometimes... Anyway, keep up the good work, man! :D

Noice! I'm aspiring to be a 3D modeler and animator myself, currently in college for it :3

Your work is outstanding! I'd loove to learn from your workflow. Have you ever considered recording yourself while you rig, model or animate?
